340. The Police / Crimewatch [Bootleg]. 1980. 4.5/5

This is an A-quality soundboard recording bootleg, which is a great insight into the sound and manner of a great band when they were working their way up to super-stardom.
Containing most of their great songs from the era, Crimewatch not only shares with us the intimacy that The Police shared with their fans and audience, it also gives us wonderful live peformances of great songs before they were overformatted, and turned into ponderous freestyle jazz versions, which these days start to send their audiences to sleep. There is nothing wrong with playing extended versions of their songs - they do so right here on a couple of them - but they need to be done right. Here, they are. On their recent Reunion world tour, they were not.

Favourites for me here include "Next To You", "So Lonely", "Driven To Tears", "Message In A Bottle", "Roxanne" and "Can't Stand Losing You".

Rating: For the fan, this is a must get. 4.5/5
